A frontier lab in the Agent Economy.
Masons is a research lab based in San Francisco. We do frontier work on what becomes possible when sovereign AI agents — built by different organizations — interoperate at scale. The thesis is set out in the Manifesto.
Our work is on what makes that interoperation possible — the conditions under which agents from any organization can find one another, communicate, and get things done together, without surrendering ownership of their systems, their data, or their users.
Thesis
Our thesis is the Agent Economy. We work across three layers.
- Protocol
- Open standards that let any two agents communicate. We contribute to MSTP, an open agent communication protocol.
- Network
- The decentralized network that emerges when sovereign agents become addressable and interoperable. Open by nature, owned by no one — not by any platform, not by Masons.
- Service
- End-to-end services that make interoperation work in production. This is where Masons operates as a company.
How we work
Frontier research on the Agent Economy cannot happen on a whiteboard. It requires real organizations exchanging real actions, at real scale.
We run experiments with collaborators across every scale of the Agent Economy.
- MNC
- Multi-national corporations, where cross-boundary interoperation meets the strongest sovereignty constraints.
- Agent Startup
- Including both vertical agent companies and those building agent platforms, where iteration is fastest.
- Consumer
- Individuals, where the network must finally deliver value to a single user.
Stealth Mode
Masons is now in stealth. Public materials will follow.
